Pike’s Peak Plein Air 2025
Painting around Pikes Peak brought a different kind of challenge—balancing accessibility with the sheer scale of the landscape. The variety of locations around Woodland Park made it a dynamic and exploratory week.

PAINTINGS FROM THE EVENT
The extended format of this event allowed for more experimentation and exploration across multiple locations. Each day brought new compositions, from forested areas to open views of Pikes Peak. It was less about rushing and more about refining decisions over time.
I focused on capturing the structure of the landscape—the red sandstone of the Morrison Foundation, and the resilient stone pillars of the earth that remained. Above it all the presence of Pikes Peak proved to be too much for me to capture at the time in all its glory.
I still spend much more time adventuring than I’d like to admit- searching for the perfect spot to paint can leave me painting nothing at all! Thankfully inspiration struck many times- especially at sunset and among the trees at my everchanging nightly camp.
